Agora Table

Table for lectures, BIDSE, 2020

François Dumas was asked to design a table intended for the lectures given during the Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Etienne, in line with the work requested for the scenography of the 11th edition. Additionally, the intention for the table was for it to remain an object of urban furniture at the heart of the Cité du Design that could still be used freely by the citizens after the event. Conceived as a single piece, the bench is attached to the table and looks inwards. In the image of an antique theatre, the seating area is semi-circular and the audience is facing the speaker coming to encircle him. The skeleton of the Agora table is created from a straightforward metal structure on which are fixed wooden slats, arranged in a semi-circle creating the seat as well as the table. The material and the colours chosen were following the theme of the Biennale, although for the Agora table slats came in place of ribbons.
