This collaboration with Camper began during a 10-day workshop in Mallorca, where François Dumas was introduced to traditional leatherworking techniques. Inspiration came from a wooden strap cutter—a tool used to slice leather into thin, uniform strips.
Working directly on a wooden shoe last, thin leather bands were layered along the foot’s contour, creating a map-like pattern. This crafted prototype celebrated the rhythm and precision of handwork.
The artisanal approach was later translated into an industrial version for Camper’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection. Advanced tools replicated the concept, cutting leather into precise strips that preserved the character of the original design.
